It was the coach that made America fall in love with motorhomes. The bold Flying W and iconic eyebrow designs were cutting paths to fun and adventure from coast to coast. In the late 60s and 70s, there was no mistaking a Winnebago motorhome. The 1972 Winnebago Chieftain Series included six models: the 22-foot D-22C, the 24-foot D-24C and D-24CL, the 27-foot D-27C and D-27CL, and the 28-foot D-28CII.

The floor plan in the RD models included a full-width rear dinette and social area. Other bathroom features included a push-button phone-head shower, lavatory and 6-gallon water heater. The bathroom included a marine toilet with 30-gallon tank on the D-20RD and C-20RD while the D-20 and C-20 offered a 21-gallon tank. This RV had a galley with three-burner stove, oven, stainless-steel sink, 4-cubic-foot refrigerator and overhead cabinets. Interior features included sleeping accommodations for up to six people - eight with an optional rear bunk. Each of the models offered standard three-speed automatic transmission, power brakes power steering and dual 70-amp batteries. The C-20 offered a Chevrolet V-8, 350-cubic-inch engine that produced 250 horsepower with Turbo Hydromatic power. The D-20 models included a Dodge V-8, 318-cubic-inch engine that produced 212 horsepower with a positive crankcase ventilation system. The 1972 Winnebago Brave-Series were 20-foot models that included the D-20 and D-20RD and as well as the C-20 and C-20RD.
